The 66-year-old mother had been conned into wrapping her money in a yellow cloth and was then instructed to inspect the bundle several days later, by which time, the amount of cash, she was told, would have multiplied, the New Straits Times daily said.
However, the victim realized she had been duped when her son, who became suspicious when he heard of the so-called magic trick, opened the bundle and found only dried leaves and old newspapers in it.
Police in Seremban town, south of Kuala Lumpur, arrested the woman's 47-year-old daughter and her 33-year-old boyfriend Monday night.
