However, Fujimori has not yet made a request for an extended stay in the land of his parents, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasua Fukuda told a news conference in Tokyo.

"At this point there is no such request," Fukuda said. "But if the request is made, the government will consider it."
Asked whether the government is aware of whether Fujimori has dual nationality - Japanese and Peruvian - Fukuda said, "We are not fully aware of the facts, so I would like to decline comments at this point."

Fujimori, who had submitted his resignation from Japan but was subsequently declared "morally unfit" for office by Peru's Congress, said in Tokyo that he wants to stay in Japan indefinitely.
