The office said that with the drop, the unemployment rate for October was 8.9 per cent, down from 9.0 per cent in September.
The October joblessness figure was 272,300 less than in October last year, when the rate was at 9.9 per cent, the office noted.
Office president Bernhard Jagoda attributed the further decline in unemplyoment to seasonal factors, the ongoing economic recovery, and an increase in state job-creation schemes.
In an east-west breakdown, joblessness in western Germany dropped by 40,000 in October to 2,342,500 for a rate of 7.1 per cent. The figure was 248,100 lower than in October 1999.
In eastern Germany, unemployment fell by 33,800 to 1,268,500 for a rate of 16.1 per cent. The figure was 24,200 lower than a year earlier.
